About Cecilia (aka UrbanSoapChick)
Over 2 years ago, I discovered the art of “making” soap. I was always fond of little handcrafted soap and it wasn’t until I was on a trip in Pennsylvania that the ingredients on one of the bars of soap I brought caught my attention. It looked so simple. There was olive oil, palm kernel oil, coconut oil, sodium hydroxide, essential oil blends, and distilled water. I remember thinking to myself….that’s it? That’s all what’s in soap? And that moment I decided I can make this myself too!!! So back home I went and bought my first soapmaking kit and tried my luck. It was a lot harder than I thought. Even though the oils were already pre-blended, I still had no clue how to handle the lye. And I was very afraid of the lye especially after the warning from the DVD. I was all covered up from head to toe and I was nervous like crazy in the kitchen trying to make a decent batch. I watched the instructional DVD many times but they did leave out any methods for efficiency. So it literally took me 6 hours to make my first batch of french vanilla & oatmeal soap. It was totally worth it and I had fallen in love with a new craft.
The art of soapmaking is a fabulous creative world, I integrate healing ingredients and positive intention into my own soap creations. It’s a beautiful craft that combines art, chemistry & baking, all in one. The soapmaking process is one that truly inspires me and expands my imagination wide.
